Whichever ceremony a couple will choose, it is important to note that they must be in the country for a minimum period of 5 days or more from beginning to end for the marriage to proceed.  No matter which venue you choose to get married in, by law, you must obtain a marriage licence therefore,

 

The following Original Documents are Required:

(photocopies are not acceptable)

 

FOR UK PASSPORT HOLDERS

• 10 year passport with at least six months left before expiry.

 

• Statutory declarations from a solicitor stating that you are free and single (one for each Bride and Groom). This must be an original document on solicitors headed paper with their stamp of authority and a validity date for up to 6 months, and must include the wedding date.


• Please note: For Scottish couples a certificate of no impediment is required from the legal registry office, valid 3 months before the wedding.

• Birth certificates - must be the original

• Adoption papers if adopted.

• Divorce papers if divorced, decree absolute.

• Change of name papers by deed poll. Even reverting back to maiden name requires documented evidence.

• Death certificate if either party is widowed.

• If under the age of 18 parental consent signed and stamped by a solicitor.

 

• Photocopies of witnesses passports who must be over 18 years of age.  These are required prior to the wedding when applying for the marriage licence.

 

• Should a couple have anything other than a British Passport they will need to obtain a certificate of freedom from their Embassy or local authorities (this includes Irish passport holders) as well as the above mentioned documents, should they apply.

All of the above are required by the Town Hall for your Wedding Licence.

Church Ceremonies

Both Anglican and Catholic Ceremonies can be held at St Georges Chapel,

Ayia Kyriaki Church (St Pauls Pillar) and at chapels within certain hotels

At least one Baptism Certificate will be required for church weddings. Also, a letter from your local minister may be asked for, at the meeting with the minister/priest prior to your wedding. 

1) Please note that all paperwork must be original and brought with you in your hand luggage.
2) Failure to bring the originals and correct paperwork will result in your wedding not taking place.
